Teach Now

TEACH-NOW US Teacher Preparation Certificate Programme

From our partners in the United States, TEACH-NOW provides a unique teaching model: rather than enrolling in several courses in a single semester, candidates progress through a series of intense, comprehensive modules of different lengths, taken in sequence.
The programme’s project/activity-based, collaborative learning model means candidate learning occurs synchronously, in mandatory virtual class sessions with 10 to 15 candidates in the learning cohort and the instructor, and asynchronously, outside of the scheduled virtual classes.
Each module is divided into units; each unit is one-week long. Every week, you will be required to complete 3 to 4 project or clinical activities, which can require anywhere between 15 to 25 hours per week to complete, depending on the complexity and collaboration requirement of the weekly activities. The learning outcomes for the programme ensure that you will be ready to help students learn by the time you finish the programme.
The TEACH-NOW platform provides a safe place to practice what you have learnt. Instructors provide encouragement and support to candidates, offer candidates questions to consider, provide affirmation to the candidates’ responses, or request candidates to resubmit an activity according to specific feedback.
Collaboration among candidates is a second way in which candidates grow and receive encouragement as well as constructive criticism. All clinical experiences include reflections–you will critically reflect on the clinical experience and document your reflections. Instructors monitor candidate experiences in the field and provide feedback in the form of recognising success, correcting wrong information, or suggesting new strategies.

The TEACH-NOW teacher training programme consists of the following eight modules that can be completed over nine months (40 weeks):
  1. Programme Orientation
  2. The Culture of Schooling
  3. The Learner & Learning in the Digital Age
  4. Managing the Learning Environment
  5. Planning & Preparation for Learning
  6. Student Assessments
  7. Introduction to Clinical Practice
  8. Teacher Practice and Proficiency (clinical)
Learning Resources
All resources (books, articles, etc.) are provided online in the programme. There is no need to buy textbooks or other resources. Students have 24/7 access to Educator’s Online Library of research databases, journals, conference papers, e-books, and more. Along with access to the Education Resource Information Center (ERIC), you will have access to the most current literature and research on teaching and learning.
Clinicals
The field experiences and clinical experiences of the TEACH-NOW programme are embedded in units across the modules. Early clinical experiences include classroom observations, interviews, practice of teaching skills, and tutoring students in their respective subject areas. These experiences (with reflections) provide the candidate with invaluable practical knowledge of content and instructional methods. In the early modules of the teacher preparation certificate programs, clinical practice is mostly observations, attending meetings such as the PTA or School Board, as well as virtual interactions. The culminating experience in the TEACH-NOW program is actually teaching, in your own or a mentor’s classroom, in Module 8.During the 12-week clinical practice, the mentor teacher assesses your performance using the TEACH-NOW rubric based on the InTASC Standards. The objective of this assessment is to ensure that you have reached at least the proficient level on all the performance outcomes of the teacher training programme, which cover the requirements of all the InTASC Standards.
