ECIS is working in collaboration with AGIS (The Association of German International Schools) to bring you the Curricular Design and Leadership course (part of the Middle leader Certificate Programme) on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th January 2020. This course will be part of the AGIS Annual Conference.
The Association of German International Schools represents and promotes the educational and public interests of member schools and their communities, working together to support learning. As a community we foster sharing among member schools and support professional development.
The Association of German International Schools (AGIS) was founded in Berlin on February 9th, 1994 and currently serves 24 members schools, teaching more than 15,000 students from more than 65 nationalities representing more than 40 different home languages. On average, more than 85 % of the parents of our students are foreign experts working for German or international companies here in Germany and our member schools employ about 2,000 teachers representing 32 different nationalities.
AGIS international schools are run as independent, non-profit, private institutions and must provide an international education in the English language, that is recognized in Germany and accepted worldwide. Member schools must also be committed to continuous improvement and quality assurance through evaluation, external program authorization and international accreditation.
In this two-day course, these questions are explored:
Why is a guaranteed and viable curriculum fundamental and how as a leader, can you ensure its central role with your team?
What role do middle leaders play in supporting the curricular vision of the school and ensuring curricular alignment?
What strategies and tools can middle leaders practice to facilitate curriculum development and review?
At the centre of teacher leadership is a commitment and desire to improve student learning. We know there are several factors that impact student learning and at the top of the list of school-related factors is a guaranteed and viable curriculum. What role do teacher leaders play in supporting the curricular vision of the school? In this course, we explore these questions together through structure protocols and discussions to generate new thinking, consolidate new ideas, and promote connections to prior knowledge.
Participants come away with direct experiences to understand the importance of a guaranteed and viable curriculum, the language of curricular design, the alignment of a course/grade level curriculum with department/team philosophy and the school’s mission and vision, and strategies to help make standards meaningful to their team.
