Middle Leader Café
Advantage or Disadvantage: Having a Culture of “Niceness” on a Team
21 February 2022
17:00-18:00 GMT
Facilitated by: Nancy Squicciarini
In her article, “When Nice Won’t Suffice”, Elisa MacDonald states, “ … culture of nice — the underlying culture that inhibits the team from reaching a level of rigorous collaborative discourse where teachers are challenging each other’s and their own thinking, beliefs, assumptions, and practice.” How can teacher leaders avoid this “culture of nice” to engage in productive cognitive conflict? This session of the Middle Leaders Cafe will examine the following: How does a “culture of nice” develop within a team? How to recognise the identifiable signs? What approaches can be used to combat “niceness”? What protocols and strategies have Middle Leaders practiced to promote honest discourse?
