This is a challenging time for teachers and school leaders. We have very quickly been thrown into uncertain times and are now trying to lead our staff and students through liminal space.

Just at a time where our teams need empathy, compassion, and space to listen we find ourselves either isolated from each other and working remotely or having to very quickly re-arrange the way we work alongside each other and students.

This online programme is specifically designed to develop your ability to thrive through this uncertainty.

 Intended Outcomes:

  • Participants will gain an awareness of basic coaching skills and how to apply them in their context, with a particular focus on wellbeing.
  • Participants will feel better equipped to coach their team, colleagues, and themselves through uncertain times.
  • Participants will leave with a greater understanding of themselves and their ability to hold a safe space for others to express their views, thus enhancing wellbeing.

Curriculum Overview

  • What is coaching vs. mentoring?
  • Level 1, 2 and 3 Listening
  • Holding a client’s agenda & Powerful Questioning
  • Reframing perspective and using peak experience
  • Bottom Lining and establishing commitments

 What is a virtual course?

This virtual course is delivered live by the facilitators.  Over the course of eight weeks, you will join colleagues online via Zoom and be taken through the training by the facilitators.  In between these times, you will be set small assignments to undertake as well as reflection and some additional reading.

Four hours of the training will be live.  The other four hours will be offline.

Testimonials:

As a senior leader to work through this light touch course with Matt and Gill was incredibly useful and not an imposition. It was a great opportunity to reflect on whether I really am ‘listening’ to my staff and helping them find their own solutions and ways forward. Refreshing and reflective – I recommend working with Matt and Gill.

Director, JESS Dubai

An empowering experience for all involved! The shift from mentor to coach is very significant and quite challenging when, as a teacher, you are so familiar with giving advice. The coaching techniques facilitated by Matt and Gill develop you as a coach to listen carefully, look for other signals and ask the right questions so the clients find their own answers. Matt and Gill modelled great coaching and provided a learning environment where you felt comfortable to ‘have a go’. The homework tasks were very useful in reinforcing the coaching techniques and allowed us a space to reflect on our coaching and feedback from our clients. Discussing the homework task in the next session also helped us to share and improve on our coaching experiences.

About the facilitators

Gill Kelly

Gill  knows what it means to lead and to learn. As a former headteacher of three different and diverse schools, she brings great creativity, insight, and gravitas to those that she works with. Her soulful yet sassy approach to life is reflected in her fundamental belief in the innate ability of people to change themselves and their setting. Gill is an artist who works in oil on a large abstract scale.

As a CTI-trained coach, she has an invaluable toolkit to help others achieve the life that they want.

When not splashing oil paints around a canvas or pursuing a bargain pair of brightly-coloured shoes Gill delivers across all of the MSB programmes and is responsible for the strategic development of the company.

She believes that life and learning are far too important to be taken too seriously. A giggle solves most things.

Matt Hall

Matt believes that people are capable of far bigger leadership and lives than they ever dare let themselves believe. In his provocative, playful yet humble approach he brings great trust and energy to MSB. His life as a senior leader in secondary schools in the UK and overseas gave him a deep understanding of what makes engaging learning and leadership.

As one of our directors and lead coaches Matt has an incredible ability to really understand others and move them forward to what they want.

When not controlling his hippy-tendencies for home-made clothes or planning an escape to the Scottish Highlands he delivers across all of the MSB programmes and is responsible for the strategic development of the company.

He believes that chocolate should never be messed with – keep it pure.
