Safeguarding

Too many tragedies have highlighted the need for schools and groups to protect children from risks of abuse. It all begins with advocating for impactful education around the needs associated with child safeguarding.

It is not about classrooms only. For instance, have you considered field trips and athletic competitions, grade-level retreats, and more? Schools and groups must have robust policies and procedures in place, complemented by regular training in child safeguarding.

ECIS is proud of its work with the International Task Force on Child Protection, convened in April 2014.

A group of core members comprising AAIE, AISH, COBIS, CIS, ECIS, ISS, and the US Department of State Office of Overseas Schools worked to collect, review, and assess current external processes, standards and indicators used to regulate, evaluate, and monitor school practices in this regard; to assess processes used by international recruiting organisations to screen educators seeking positions in schools; and to collect, review, create, and provide resources for school communities to establish effective operational policies and practices for the selection, employment, and training of educators in this regard.

In late 2015, the task force partnered with the International Centrefor Missing and Exploited Children to provide a section of their website dedicated exclusively to safeguarding in international schools. Click here to find myriad resources, from sample policies and forms to recommended providers of training for your entire faculty.

As of July 2016, ECIS is proud to offer a flexible option for child safeguarding training for your entire school, all online, yet complemented by robust assessments that demonstrate each participant's ability to apply best practices in child safeguarding to situations so often encountered in schools...especially international schools.
