Dr Kevin Ruth - Executive Director

Kevin is Executive Director of ECIS. In addition to two decades in education, he has given 19 years of service as a director on non-profit boards, with four years as a school trustee. Kevin is a Fellow in the UK-based Royal Society of Arts; advisory council member for Harvard Business Review; member of the Online Executive Panel (Education) for McKinsey & Company; member of the Feedback Forum (Marketing) for the Financial Times; and past lecturer for the National Endowment for the Humanities.
He holds bachelor’s degrees in French and German and a Master’s in Comparative Literature, all from the Pennsylvania State University; a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from Rutgers University; and two executive certificates from Stanford University in Advanced Project Management and Strategic Decision & Risk Management.

Arup Biswas - Chief Operating Officer

Arup joined ECIS in Summer 2017 as Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this he spent his career in the media and digital sectors, holding roles including Head of Digital Operations for a major listed news organisation, where he also launched the UK's largest network of mobile news apps. Arup trained as a newspaper journalist, and worked on local papers as well as on the national Daily Mail title in the UK, before working for charities such as Oxfam GB in national and international media, public relations, and advocacy roles.
Arup was also the founder and lead of a number of innovative publishing and digital initiatives, including a collaborative content site which gained high profile support and media coverage around the world. He holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Sussex and a MBA from Warwick Business School.

Alex Mercieca - Head of Membership

Alex spent the first 10 years of her career in broadcasting, working across sales and acquisitions for the likes of Sky and NBC Universal. When she moved out of London she joined a small creative agency as an Account Director, and ECIS were one of her first clients. Alex managed the ECIS account for two years, before joining the team as Head of Membership in 2017.
Alex brings a wealth of experience to ECIS and leads our membership team, building relationships, marketing, planning, and researching how to continually offer valuable new services and products to our members. Her organisational skills, attention to detail, and ability to forge new business partnerships has resulted in many new schools from around the world joining the ECIS family.
Alex's other major passions in life include music and singing, and she regularly performs with her local choir.

Caroline Davis - Membership Manager

After working as a pharmacy assistant, Caroline began her ECIS career as part of the Teacher Placements team and spent a year with CIS (Council of International Schools), until the lure of working on ECIS conferences became too much, and she returned to the ECIS fold as an Events Assistant.
During her time at ECIS, Caroline has enjoyed various roles such as Teacher Placements Assistant, Administrative Assistant, Executive Assistant, Office Manager and is currently the Membership Manager. In her spare time, Caroline enjoys theatre, yoga, boxing and going to the gym.

Georgie Orton - Head of Education Programmes

Dawn Burby - Education Programmes Manager

Dawn has a varied background, initially working as a as a designer for many years, she then moved onto office based roles in buying, CRM, PA and Office Management. She has worked in three schools and also in Learning and Development for large corporations.
She is passionate about education and self-development and has been involved in expanding the Education Programmes department at ECIS from two courses to a larger portfolio consisting of face to face, online and blended learning.
Dawn still loves being creative and is passionate about music, film and the arts and also enjoys learning and practicing Tai Chi and Yoga in her spare time.

James Wren - Design Manager


James lives in Graz and is responsible for the creative output at ECIS. He has worked for ECIS both in a full-time and consultant capacity for over two years. He grew up in Australia and the UK, worked in Hong Kong as well as for Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines. James has a background in both design and education, having previously worked for creative agencies in Vienna and Berlin as a conceptual designer for global brands.
James also taught Communication Design at St. Gilgen International School, which included curriculum design and the set-up of an in-school design agency managed by the students. He also ran a boarding house and took care of school publications. He ran "People, Pens and Paper" workshops (for students and faculty) at international schools and conferences, which focused on developing innovative ideas to help our communities.
People, Pens & Paper is also the title of his book, which features realistic projects and creative tools for teachers. James is the founder of Class Action Magazine, a digital platform for schools to share innovative projects.
Outside of work, James is an experienced voice artist with a passion for accents which he uses for radio comedy characters. He has produced work for a variety of clients, including Warner Bros. He enjoys Austrian cakes and hiking with the family, but not always in that order.
